Scientists studying fossils of sea creatures from around the Isle of Skye of the Scottish coast have discovered an entirely new species of ancient sea monster that lived around 170 million years ago in the then warms seas around what is now Scotland.
Dearchmhara Shawcrossi as the creature is now called, has been named after the amateur fossil hunter Brian Shawcross who first discovered the fossils in Bearreraige Bay on the Isle in 1959.
So is this 14ft predatory beast the long lost cousin of dear old Nessie? Well probably not but you just never know ;)
